Until now, our country’s leading performance in this regard was owned by Irina Spîrlea , who ended the 1997 season on 8th place in the WTA.
Simona arrived in the country today and held a press conference, broadcast live on Digi Sport 3.
“I had a tougher time before the Champions Tournament, with some injuries. It was a very big match for me, this win with Serena, but it was only a match, because then she beat me in the final. It gave me confidence that I can play good, solid tennis. I hope to play again against her and even beat her. It’s a great achievement for me. Last year I finished with a loss , but we lost to the world number 1” , said Simona Halep.
She revealed a discussion she had with Serena Williams, immediately after the lost final in Singapore.
“Serena told me after that she wants to take a picture with me, the future world number 1. I want to get there, I hope it happens, but the ranking is not so important. The victories and the trophies are more important” , he Halep also stated.
The athlete from Constanţa said that after a well-deserved vacation, a camp in the mountains will follow.
“It will be a very difficult year, I have to enjoy it and do better. I will go on vacation now, after which there will be a training camp in the mountains. I have not made any decisions related to my staff. I am happy for that I played the final at such a tournament, it’s quite a big achievement and I hope it will give me confidence and play well in the future” , said Simona.
