Simona Halep won the most important match of her career, and emotions made their way to the end of the match with Serena Williams (6-2, 6-2). The 27-year-old Romanian told how she felt before serving to win the trophy.
At 5-2, in the 2nd set, when I served, I looked at the scoreboard and said “ok, it’s 5-2″. This is really happening. It’s real. I played every ball without thinking about the score”, Simona said at the press conference.

Simona Halep needed only 56 minutes to destroy Serena Williams, who had won 9 of the previous 10 direct meetings between the two.
Simona Halep also said that the lost finals helped her to be different now. “It’s never easy to play a Grand Slam final. The moment is intimidating and you get nervous, very nervous. I learned that it’s a normal match, I didn’t think about the trophy, I tried to play and give everything. I – I said that every time I play a grand slam final I will do so, so today I did the same”.
