The organizers of the Australian Open, impressed by the way Simona Halep was expected in Romania

Simona Halep (27 years old – WTA 4th place) became the first Romanian in history to win theWimbledon trophy , after categorically defeatingSerena Williams (37 years – WTA 9th place) 6-2, 6 -2 . Simona returned to the country on Monday, and those at the Australian Open were very impressed by the way the fans received the athlete at the airport.

The organizers of the Australian Open posted several emotional pictures on Twitter, in which the moment of Simona’s arrival back in Romania was immortalized.

“A very warm ‘welcome home’ for the Wimbledon champion” , wrote those from the Australian Open.

And Simona Halep thanked all the fans who waited for her at the airport, also through a post on Twitter: “Thank you all for the warmth with which you received me!”

Our great champion had a  fantastic evolution and became the first Romanian to win the singles title. This was the second Grand Slam tournament won by Simona Halep.

Simona Halep  won the Wimbledon tournament on Saturday, after defeating the American Serena Williams in the final 6-2, 6-2. Halep claimed her second career Grand Slam title after one of her best matches, winning in just 55 minutes against the former world number one. 

Simona Halep, the world number four, lost only one set on the way to her second Grand Slam title, against Mihaela Buzărnescu, in the second round, her first Grand Slam title being won in 2018, at Roland Garros. 

Halep, who played her fifth Grand Slam final, after three at Roland Garros and one at the Australian Open, prevailed against one of the best players in the history of tennis, Serena having seven titles at Wimbledon (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010 , 2012, 2015, 2016) and 23 career Grand Slams. Last year, Williams played the final at the All England Club and at the US Open.
