Iga Świątek was born on May 31, 2001 in Warsaw. She comes from a sporting family. Her father Tomasz was a rowing athlete and represented Poland at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Her father sometimes said that Iga’s tennis upbringing was easier because… he learned from the mistakes he made with his older daughter Agata. Iga’s older sister, Agata Świątek, like Iga herself, played tennis for a dozen or so years.
Świątek told us how her adventure with tennis began. “It was my father’s idea, he always liked the sport and wanted his daughter to play it. My sister, who is three years older than me, played and I wanted to be like her. When I was younger, I always competed with her and lost, which was very motivating for me,” she said in an interview for WTA Insider. She added that she was a really demanding opponent and if she took up another sport, it would be the same.
Iga Świątek was associated with Warsaw clubs from the very beginning – Warszawianka, Mera, and then for several years with Legia. As a junior and cadet, she achieved many successes in Poland and abroad, including triumphing with Maja Chwalińska in the European Championships (2015 and 2016).

The tennis player from Raszyn near Warsaw also did very well at school. She attended a private school, but did not have an individual course of study.
– My parents raised me to believe that school is the most important thing. If I had been bad at school, I probably wouldn’t have played tennis. Education is the foundation for me. Besides, I really like learning – Iga told “Super Express”. She said about mathematics: “It’s my favorite subject at school, because everything is logical and you don’t have to memorize anything”.
The Polish tennis player took her final exams this year. She could be pleased with her results. Her achievements in the basic exams in English and mathematics were particularly impressive.
The tennis player announced her final exam results on social media. She got 83% in Polish, and 100% in the basic exams of English and mathematics.
Iga also took advanced exams in English and mathematics. In the first case she got 96 percent, and in the second 66 percent. “Here I was hoping for more,” she wrote.
