Rafael Nadal is a living legend of tennis. The Spaniard has won a total of 22 Grand Slam tournaments. He most often won at Roland Garros in Paris – 14 times. He also triumphed at the US Open four times and at the Australian Open and Wimbledon twice. However, he has been struggling with health problems for some time and for this reason he recently announced the end of his career.
Iga Świątek started talking about Nadal. “I don’t know”
Nadal’s last tournament will be the Davis Cup. The games will be held in Malaga, where Iga Świątek is currently staying, competing in the Billie Jean King Cup. The Pole has never hidden the fact that the Spaniard is her great idol. She had the opportunity to cross paths with him in Malaga, which she confirmed at a press conference. Świątek also spoke about the end of Nadal’s career.
– Honestly, he was the only player I watched, so I don’t know if I’ll watch tennis at all now. I’ll watch his old matches online. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I’m happy that he can start a new chapter, and I’m happy that he’ll end it all with the Davis Cup, a tournament he loves, and in Spain. But on the other hand, I’ll really miss watching him on the court. He’s a huge inspiration – said Świątek.
Shortly after Nadal announced his retirement, Iga Świątek recorded a special farewell video for him. “I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you and what your entire career has meant to me. Because you were and still are the greatest inspiration I’ve ever had in tennis,” she said, confirming once again how much the Spaniard means to her.
Currently, Świątek is focused on her next match in the Billie Jean King Cup. The Polish women will face the Italians in the semifinals of this tournament. The match will start on Monday at 5:00 p.m. The Davis Cup will last from November 19 to 24.
