JAKARTA – Billy Joe Saunders, a professional boxer from England, sensationally claims that Tyson Fury did not have the best camp for his first fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
In the aftermath, Fury failed in his bid to achieve the undisputed world heavyweight champion’s glory against the Ukrainian boxer in May 2024. He suffered a separate decision in the fight in Saudi Arabia.
In fact, the 36-year-old boxer was in top physical condition at the time. However, Fury did little to Usyk who almost knocked him out in the ninth round.
No wonder, Saunders, who is Fury’s old friend, is now willing to help in the training camp.
He wanted to make sure the training went well so he could beat Usyk in the rematch.
“I’m not looking for excuses for him (Fury). However, I know what happened in the camp and what didn’t happen in the camp (for the first time).”
“I know that even in terms of sparring and other small things, there are some things that are lacking and need to be fixed or addressed this time.”
“He (Fury) asked me to go to the training camp with him. So, I’m happy to say that I’m going with him,” Saunders said in talkSPORT.
Fury and Usyk played a rematch on December 21, 2024, although they did not fight for the undisputed world heavyweight title.
Saunders has no doubt that Fury could avenge his first professional defeat if he made some changes to his game plans and training.
“Tyson Fury, he can beat Usyk three times a night with one simple game plan.”
“My honest opinion is I don’t think anyone out there can beat Usyk.”
“Tyson has to get rid of the thought that you won’t attack this man or wait.”
“It’s very, very easy to beat him. You have to use your body size. You have to use your physical advantages.”
“You have to use every attribute to have a maximum effect on this guy. I’m sure Tyson will win the next fight. I’m sure he will win by knockout too,” said Saunders.
Fury was determined to take revenge on Usyk. In a post on his personal Instagram, he showed hard training for the preparation of the duel.
“Hi friends, Tyson Fury is here. Back to gym, as you can see. I count days until I can make up for my mistakes on Usyk.”
“On December 21, 2024, it will be my time. I have done everything in boxing, but I will not rise from defeat.”
“I enjoyed it, the opportunity to make up for my mistakes. Wake up! December 21, 2024 belongs to me completely, this is me”, Fury said in June 2024.
