Simona Halep (32 years old, 1132 WTA) can return to the court at the end of October, at the WTA tournament in Tokyo, Toray Pan Pacific Open. According to GSP, the two-time Grand Slam champion received a wild card.
The Tokyo tournament, a 500-point tournament, takes place between October 21 and 27. Later, Simona will participate in the WTA250 tournament in Hong Kong, where she also received a wild card .
Simona’s intention is to link the two Asian tournaments. Everything depends on the physical condition of the former world leader.
Simona Halep received a wild card at the WTA tournament in Tokyo
It will be the 39th edition of the Japanese tour. Last year, the total prize fund approached 800,000 dollars. The 2023 trophy was lifted by Russian Veronika Kudermetova.
The Asian hard court season concludes the competitive calendar in women’s tennis. Only two events are scheduled in November:
- Tournament of Champions (November 4, Riyadh)
- Billie Jean King Cup final tournament (November 11, Malaga).
Simona Halep has not started an official match since May, due to a knee injury. He dropped out in the first round of the Trophée Clarins, in a dispute with McCartney Kessler.
Meanwhile, Halep took part in an exhibition match at the Sports Festival,when she teamed up with Andrei Pavel, and faced Steffi Graff and Andre Agassi.
Halep had recently announced that she would like to play in the Asian tournament, after 5 months without an official match
“I’m still recovering with my knee, but I’m planning to play a tournament in Hong Kong at the end of October, I’d really like to. I miss it, I miss the competition, I hope to be healthy and fit to play, that’s the plan”, said Simona Halep before receiving the official invitation.
Simona Halep has played only two matches since receiving the favorable verdict from TAS in March. She lost to Paula Badosa in the first round at the Miami Open and dropped out at the Trophée Clarins.
Simona Halep collaborates with Daniel Dobre
At the beginning of September, Simona Halep announced the resumption of collaboration with Daniel Dobre.
“He is with me tonight, Daniel Dobre will be my coach, he is and has always been with me and I am very happy because he is a special person”, explained Halep, on the day she attended the inauguration of the ice rink from Berceni.
Dobre was with her at Wimbledon in 2019, the historic victory over Serena Williams, score 6-2, 6-2.
