One photo with a location tag posted on social media – that was enough for Iga Świątek to inform her fans that her trip to Saudi Arabia is behind her. The 23-year-old is already in Riyadh, where all fans of women’s tennis will be watching closely in the coming days.
It is on these courts that this year’s WTA Finals will be held, from 2 to 9 November. Its result – just like last year – will be extremely important for Iga Świątek, who is once again fighting to knock Aryna Sabalenka off the top spot in the ranking at the very end of the season.
Recently, she managed to do this. In Mexico – in Cancun – where the previous tennis campaign among women ended, Iga Świątek had no equals – she ruthlessly crushed her rivals, until she finally reached for the final triumph, regaining the title of the world’s first racket. Recently, however, unfortunately, she had to give way to the aforementioned Aryna Sabalenka.
Tennis: WTA Finals. Iga Świątek is already in Riyadh. The Pole will fight Aryna Sabalenka
The Polish tennis player lost her position as the leader of the WTA ranking due to her prolonged absence, as well as the excellent form of the Belarusian, who has behind her behind her the victory in the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan.
Meanwhile, Iga Świątek last appeared on world courts in early September, during the Grand Slam competition at the US Open. Our representative reached the quarterfinals then, losing 2:6, 4:6 to the player from the United States – Jessica Pegula. Now she is waiting to return to play, this time under the leadership of a new coach, Wim Fissett , who replaced Tomasz Wiktorowski in the position.
The WTA Finals tournament is not the only event in which we will see Iga Świątek in the coming month. The 23-year-old has already officially confirmed that she will also represent the Polish national team in the Billie Jean King Cup finals .
