After the match with Varvara Gracheva, in an interview given to Digi Sport, Simona Halep admitted that the pains were great in the lumbar area and she even thought of quitting.
Likewise, Simona Halep explained that the pain appeared after a movement made during a shot, as a result of which her back “locked”.
” I think I played a good game, until the end of the first set, until that strange movement happened and I got stuck in the back. After, I just wanted to hit the ball, finish the points quickly. She also helped me, fouled a few balls and somehow managed to win the match.
Definitely yes, if it hurt more I would have stopped. I’ve had these pains before, there are blockages in the lumbar spine, it simply takes your breath away and you can’t really do certain movements.
I did everything I could, as much as the pain allowed, and I managed to win. I thought to stop, not to make it worse.
I got treatment, but I have one more round. I hope that by tomorrow I will be fine, I will be able to play. I promised myself for a very long time not to give up, that’s what I try to do every time I enter the field.
I don’t care about the result, just playing the game. I fought today because I’m at home and I like playing here ,” said Simona Halep.

Simona Halep will have less than 24 hours to recover for the quarter-final match at the Transylvania Open, where she will meet Jaqueline Cristian.
