Iga Świątek is currently the vice-leader of the world ranking and is second only to Aryna Sabalenka , but according to experts, she has been unrivaled since 2020. According to the list prepared by Tennis365, Świątek is the undisputed first among the best tennis players of this decade. The Polish player has not only won more Grand Slam titles than Aryna Sabalenka, but has also stayed at the top of the WTA ranking for the longest time.
The list includes results from 2020-2024 only, and the number of titles won, regularity of performances and position in the ranking were taken into account. Iga Świątek leads the ranking thanks to five Grand Slam triumphs – she won Roland Garros four times (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024), and also triumphed in the US Open (2022). In total, the Polish woman won 22 titles, including 10 WTA 1000 rank, and for a record 125 weeks remained the leader of the world ranking.
With the most weeks at the top of the ranking, the most Grand Slam titles and the most overall triumphs of any WTA player since 2020, Iga Świątek easily took first place in the ranking,” we read in the justification.
Aryna Sabalenka took second place in the ranking. The Belarusian can also boast significant successes – she is a two-time Australian Open champion (2023, 2024) and the current winner of the US Open (2023). Additionally, she has appeared in the semi-finals of Roland Garros and Wimbledon five times, and has won a total of 13 titles, including five WTA 1000 titles. Despite excellent results on hard courts, she is behind Świątek both in terms of the number of Grand Slam triumphs and the time spent as the leader of the ranking.
Behind the Pole and Belarusian in the ranking were Coco Gauff, Ashleigh Barty, Elena Rybakina, Barbora Krejcikova, Ons Jabeur, Jessica Pegula and Naomi Osaka. Among them, it is worth mentioning Barty, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon despite her premature retirement, and Gauff, who won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2023.
Iga Świątek not only defeated Sabalenka in this ranking, but also clearly marked her dominance over the rest of the field. Her record-breaking streak of 37 consecutive victories in 2022 and her consistency in reaching for the biggest trophies make her the most important tennis player in recent years.
