Some huge names are absent as the 2024 Formula 1 season wraps up with its usual day of post-season testing.
Having won his fourth-straight title, Max Verstappen has been given the day off and won’t feature on track on Tuesday. Nor will Lewis Hamilton, having been denied the chance to test for new team Ferrari as he still has obligations to fulfil for Mercedes.
But there are some drivers getting to grips with their new employers. That includes the man Hamilton will replace at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz, who on Monday drove a Williams for the first time on a filming day and who is also taking part in the test for his future team.
The day’s running takes place in two different parts. First, there is a tyre test for suppliers Pirelli during which anyone can drive. And then there is a designated ‘young driver’ portion in which teams must field a racer who qualifies as a rookie.
Teenager Oliver Bearman had been due to drive for Haas in that second part of the test.
