Iga Świątek withdrew from the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. She herself informed on social media that the reason for her withdrawal was personal matters. Before the tournament in Beijing, she had 10,885 points on her account, and her advantage over Aryna Sabalenka was over 2,000 points.

The leader of the ranking is still Iga Świątek, who starts her 123rd week in first place. In terms of the length of reign in women’s tennis, the Polish player is in seventh place. Sixth in the all-time table is Monica Seles, who was in the lead for over 50 weeks longer than the Polish player.

After the tournament in Beijing, Świątek will have 9785 points. She will lose as many as 1100 points that she won last year thanks to her triumph in the capital of China (1000 points) and the quarterfinal in Tokyo (100 points).

It is therefore certain that Sabalenka will get close to her. If the Belarusian triumphs in China, she will reduce the gap to just over 280 points. She can realistically think about fighting for the position of leader at the end of the season. But she still has points to defend from last year’s quarterfinal. On Monday, she will play in the third round with American Ashlyn Krueger.

There is a real gap behind the top two. The podium is completed by Jessica Pegula, who is close to the 6,000-point mark. The gap to Świątek and Sabalenka is therefore clear. Fourth place is occupied by Jelena Rybakina, who is not in Beijing. The Kazakh representative may lose even two positions after the tournament. Jasmine Paolini is very close. Coco Gauff also has a chance for the top five, but the American would have to win the tournament to overtake Rybakina.

The Chinese Qinwen Zheng will definitely remain in the top ten, and Emma Navarro should also keep her place. Danielle Collins (absent in Beijing) and Barbora Krejcikova (out in the second round) may feel threatened. Four tennis players have a chance to overtake them – Daria Kasatkina, Anna Kalinska, Paula Badoda and Donna Vekić, of whom the Spaniard and the Croatian would have to triumph in Beijing. Beatriz Haddad Maia, who lost to Madison Keys on Monday morning, must put her dreams of entering the top ten on hold.

Fręch achieves the best result in his career

It is worth noting the situation of two other Polish tennis players. Magdalena Fręch’s advancement to the 1/8 finals secured her a place in the best 30 players in the world. If she made it to the quarterfinals in Beijing, she would be at least in the TOP 25. Her closest rival will be the Chinese Shuai Zhang, the meeting will take place on Tuesday.

Magda Linette, who can think about staying in the TOP 50, also remains in the tournament. She reached the third round, equaling her result from last year. In this phase, she will play Paolini. The match is scheduled for Monday morning, Polish time.
