That is why when the queen of golf spoke up against the ‘double standards’ incident involving Sabrina Carpenter, Spiranac received a lot of support from beyond just golf communities. Everyone praised her for standing up for herself and encouraged her to always be true to who she is.
So when a former NFL wide receiver criticized three female football presenters for doing their job, Paige Spiranac came to their defense while providing an explanation. The incident occurred on December 7, 2024, after T.J. Moe tweeted a picture showing recognized female NFL presenters with the caption, “Who actually wants to watch three women stand around and talk about football? I do not.”
Spiranac grabbed her trusted camera and recorded a video to post on her X account, with the caption, “I’m sure this take will provoke only kind comments and absolutely no one will tell me to shut up because of what I like to wear lol.” An unapologetic Paige Spiranac started off by showing a glimpse of T.J. Moe’s tweet. Then, being the reasonable person that she is, the golf queen clarified that she also went through the response Moe received to his tweet, as the former NFL player had claimed that “Most people agree with me, they’re just afraid to say it,” after resharing the original tweet.
She further explained how it’s extremely challenging for women who haven’t played the sport but have a deep understanding of it to break through the ranks as a presenter. She mentioned how these women will “never get the highest opportunities because men only want to listen to other men talk about that sport.” Spiranac then advised these women to “use whatever else you have in your toolbox to be able to get opportunities.” Sharing a page from her book, the former LPGA Tour pro explained how people won’t take you seriously if you use your looks to objectify yourself in the field. However, he mentioned that the women were “never taken seriously or given the opportunities because men want to listen to other men talk about sports.”
Addressing a possible debate about presenting for women’s sports instead, Spiranac shared that this side of the coin does not receive as much media attention. She stated, that “men want to watch men play sports. Men very rarely want to watch women play sports.” Spiranac suggested that is the reason why women athletes explore careers outside of their sports, as she gave an example of “Nelly Korda doing SI (Sports Illustrated).” While women are often criticized for such ventures, men who participate in similar projects rarely face the same level of scrutiny.
