Iga Świątek has had an exceptionally intense and demanding period full of changes in her career and coaching staff. During a nearly two-month break from competition, she decided to end her cooperation with Tomasz Wiktorowski, who was her coach during many sporting triumphs. In his place, she hired a renowned coach from Belgium, Wim Fissette, with the hope of a new chapter and further development.
After these significant changes, Świątek returned to competition in the prestigious tournament that closes the season – the WTA Finals, organized this year in Riyadh. Despite winning the first match against Barbora Krejčíková, the next clash with Coco Gauff ended in defeat, which complicated her situation in the group.
Although Iga showed class in the third match, dominating Daria Kasatkina, this result was not enough to advance to the semi-finals. As a result, Świątek ended her participation in the tournament in the group stage, which prevented her from defending the title won a year earlier in Mexico – a situation that was a big disappointment for her.
After the tournament ended, Świątek went to Spain. In Malaga, she was the leading representative of Poland during the Billie Jean King Cup. After losing the semi-final to the Italians, the 23-year-old unofficially ended her season. At the post-match press conference, she honestly summed up her last year. The Polish player did not hide the fact that it was extremely demanding.

The last year was exceptionally intense and full of challenges for 23-year-old Iga Świątek. The Polish player achieved spectacular successes, such as triumphing in the Grand Slam tournament Roland Garros or winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Games. However, this year will be remembered in her memory above all as a time of groundbreaking changes and difficult experiences.
In the autumn, Świątek ended her cooperation with Tomasz Wiktorowski, who had been her coach for the last few seasons and with whom she had achieved the greatest successes. The Polish player then began cooperation with the valued coach Wim Fissette. Unfortunately, the end of the season turned out to be particularly difficult for the player from Raszyn. She had to face numerous turbulences both professionally and privately. Injuries and other private problems forced her to withdraw from several tournaments, which cost her the position of the leader of the WTA ranking for the second time in her career.
The past 12 months have been an extremely demanding period for Świątek, which she herself emphasized in her statements after finishing the Billie Jean King Cup competition. The Pole openly admitted that fatigue and difficulties related to the tight schedule left a mark on her form and psyche, but at the same time emphasized her readiness to continue working and fighting to return to the top.
It looked different for me after Roland Garros. The first part was almost perfect, but the second part had ups and downs. I still need time to analyze it, because since the beginning of the season I have only moved from tournament to tournament – said Iga Świątek at the post-match press conference.
As we can see, the 23-year-old and her team still have an intensive analysis of the past year and drawing the appropriate conclusions ahead. The first Grand Slam stop in 2025 will be the Australian Open.
