Simona Halep (30 years old) spoke about the success of David Popovici, double champion at the World Swimming Championship held in Budapest last week.
The athlete from Romania managed to qualify in the 2nd round at Wimbledon and is at the beginning of the grand slam tournament, but she has not forgotten about the young compatriot who has been a sensation lately.
Simona Halep, message for David Popovici
David Popovici (17 years old), double world champion in Budapest, in the 100 and 200 meters freestyle, impressed an entire country with his performance.
Even Simona Halep did not remain impassive at the success of the young athlete from Romania and wanted to send him a message.
“I looked at the result and I congratulate him from the bottom of my heart, it’s wonderful what he’s doing. I want him to be very focused on what he has to do. To get all the love from people, but to stand there with his feet firmly planted, Stiff, as they say, can do miracles. I wish her a lot of success!”, said Simona Halep, according to Prosport.
Halep also commented on the choice of Popovici, who nominated her as a role model.
“Closer to age, maybe that’s why. He’s a special boy, I’ve seen him in interviews and in everything he does, everything he says. He’s special, bravo to him!”.
Simone’s praise continued:
“He’s already big, we don’t have to talk about the future using ‘if’, because he already is, he’s a champion and he’s a miracle of swimming in our country. I think he’ll be big after all, he’s already big but he’ll be even bigger!”.

Simona Halep, complicated mission at Wimbledon! The possible opponents on the way to the final
Simona Halep has not played at Wimbledon since 2019, as the 2020 edition was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the 2021 edition, the Romanian was injured in the thigh and could not participate.
At the 2022 edition, Simona Halep was unlucky in the draw, being on a very difficult route to the final of the competition on grass.
In the first round, Simona Halep will face Karolina Muchova (25 years old), former world number 19 and double quarter-finalist at Wimbledon in 2019 and 2021.
Karolina Muchova has only played nine games this season due to medical problems. The athlete from the Czech Republic will face Simona Halep for the first time in the circuit.
Simona Halep, who is in the middle of the table of the world leader Iga Swiatek, can have top opponents starting from the “eighties” at Wimbledon. It is about the Iberian Paula Badosa (4th WTA), the Czech athlete Karolina Pliskova (7 WTA), the new revelation of the USA, Cori Gauff (12 WTA), or the American Serena Williams, seven-time Wimbledon champion.
If she reaches the semifinals, Simona Halep can face Iga Swiatek (WTA No. 1), who is undefeated on the WTA circuit since February 16. The Pole won six tournaments in a row (Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, Rome and Roland Garros).
