Simona Halep made her debut at Roland Garros , after the success against the athlete Mariana Nastasja Schunk (18 years old, 165th place WTA), score 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
For the athlete from Romania, the confrontation with Qinwen Zheng (19 years old, 74th place WTA) follows. The two players have met only once so far, this year, in the Melbourne Summer Set 1 tournament, when Simona  prevailed with a score of 6-3, 6-2 , in the semifinals, live on Digi Sport .

At the press conference at the end of her first match at Roland Garros 2022, Simona was asked how she could win the trophy in France. The athlete from Romania didn’t think twice and gave an answer that caused smiles all around.
“I need to win all the matches I have to play (no laughs) . I need to play as well as I can, be confident in every match. But for now I’m only thinking about the next match. Then if I win it, I’ll report to the next match. I’m taking it step by step. I’m putting enormous pressure on myself, it helps me to progress, it helps me to be focused ,” said Simona Halep.
Golden chance for Simona Halep! Favorable situation for the Romanian before Roland Garros and Wimbledon
Simona Halep is the only player in the WTA Top 20 who benefits from a favorable situation this season, ahead of two Grand Slam tournaments: Roland Garros (May 22 – June 5) and Wimbledon (June 27 – July 10).
Simona Halep has no point to defend either at Roland Garros or at Wimbledon, as she did not participate in these tournaments in 2021.
The 2021 French Open champion is Czech Barbora Krejcikova. The current WTA world leader, Poland’s Iga Swiatek, lost in the round of 16 in 2021.
