Hurkacz was asked if he will return to play mixed doubles with his countrywoman Iga Swiatek. The two played together in the United Cup, leading the national team to the final tournament of the new nations tournament.
He told: “Yes, we will play mixed doubles together at the Olympic Games in Paris.”
But that could be an important moment in Iga Swiatek’s extraordinary career. If she – already a three-time champion at the Roland Garros – were to win the 2024 edition as well and, likewise, were to also win the gold medal in singles at Paris Olympic 2024, a very rare event would occur.
In fact, she would be the second tennis player after Serena Williams who could triumph in a Slam and at the Olympics in the same year, in the same city and in the same facility. In 2024, in fact, the Olympic tournament will be played at the Stade Roland Garros, the same venue as the French Open.
Serena Williams is the only tennis player to have achieved this milestone, in 2012, by winning Wimbledon and the Olympic gold medal at the All England Club.
