Simona Halep (20 WTA) clearly defeated Gabriela Ruse (87 WTA) in minimum sets, 6-2, 6-1 , in the round of 16 at Melbourne Summer Set 1.
The first set consisted of breaks, six in total, four of which were won by Simona Halep, the second favorite of the tournament, which ultimately made the difference. In the second act, the best-ranked player from Romania continued to play excellently on the opponent’s serve and did not give any chance to Gabriela Ruse, who took only one game.
In the quarterfinals at Melbourne Summer Set 1, Simona Halep will play against Viktorija Golubic (43 WTA), who advanced to the second round of Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove (158 WTA), 6-3, 6-0.
