Simona Halep (30 years old, 22 WTA) qualified for the “ace box” in Linz , after defeating Jasmine Paolini (25 years old, 51 WTA) in the quarters, score 4-6, 7-5 , 6-0 .
The former world leader had a more difficult task than expected against the Italian, whom she had beaten in their only previous head-to-head meeting. Simona Halep lost the first set during which she had a few nervous outbursts , but came back spectacularly by winning the next two.

” I am very relieved that I was able to win this match. It was a very, very hard one. She played with power and amazing speed. At the beginning I didn’t have time to do anything on the field, but along the way I tried to change the rhythm and in the end I dominated the match.
I’m sorry for that (no- the nervous outburst) , it’s not nice, but sometimes I need things like that. I fought until the end. Thank you for coming (no-spectators) , it’s a pleasure to play here.
