Raszynianka once again gave the American no chance this season. A few months ago, the Pole was clearly better than Gauff in the Roland Garros final, and now she has also deprived her of hope in San Diego.
The semi-final of this event meant that Świątek broke the impressive barrier of 10 thousand points. In the ranking counting points from the last 365 days, she managed to do this already in September. After the match with Gauff, she did something more difficult. She broke the magic barrier in the WTA Race ranking, a list that takes into account only results from this season.
The Pole has already won seven tournaments this season: in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, Rome, Paris and New York. The semi-final in San Diego, in the Pole’s current form, gives hope for increasing this achievement.
In the semi-final, Iga Świątek’s opponent will be Jessica Pegula. This match will most likely take place on the night from Saturday to Sunday.
The prize pool for the tournament in San Diego is $757,000. The semi-finalists can be sure of a $42,000 bonus and 185 points to the WTA ranking.
