Iga Świątek receives the bronze medal at the Olympic Games with a sad face
Iga Świątek is a person who is well known even to those who are not interested in women’s tennis at all. Subsequent sports successes, including winning Roland Garros three times, have meant that the only 23-year-old tennis player enjoying the title of the best racket in the world does not disappear from the front pages of newspapers, and advertisers are lining up to see her. Therefore, no one should be surprised by the fact that many fans currently consider her the biggest star of Polish sports, and not Robert Lewandowski, as was the case some time ago.
Our player has proven once again that it is not without reason that she is considered one of the best Polish sportswomen. On Friday, August 1, during the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, she was the first in the history of Polish tennis to reach for an Olympic medal. After unexpectedly losing in the semifinals to Chinese Qinwen Zheng, in the match for bronze she managed to win without any surprises against Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
The following day, the ceremonial presentation of medals in the women’s tennis singles took place. Ida Świątek, who received the bronze medal, was accompanied by Zheng Qinwen, with a gold medal, and Croatian Donna Vekić with silver. During the medal ceremony, it was hard not to get the impression that our medalist was not in the best of moods. Although the photojournalists managed to capture her smile more than once, there were also moments when the Polish tennis player seemed depressed. Was this just a sporting dissatisfaction caused by winning “only” a bronze medal? Or maybe something else happened?
