Cosac: “If Mr. Ţiriac maintains his intention to run for the presidency of the FRT, I will resign”
Yesterday, George Cosac , the current president of the FRT , announced that he will withdraw from the race for a new mandate if Ion Ţiriac maintains his intention to run for the elections that should take place this summer.
Asked if he will still remain in Ion Ţiriac’s team, George Cosac answered: “It remains up to the voters and Mr. Ţiriac to decide if I will be part of the new team. There are certainly some important projects that must be carried forward, and the first is the 6-court hall, 40-room hotel, canteen and recovery center, and the second is the Doherty Base.
The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Romanian Tennis Federation on April 12, during which decisions had to be taken to unblock the legal situation of the institution, did not take place due to lack of quorum (only 32 associated members were present), and it will be rescheduled in the following period .
According to the statute, the 54 associated members must vote for the granting of full rights and the registration in the constitutive act of the other 317 affiliated members of the Romanian Tennis Federation. After the registration of the 317 affiliated members in the constitutive act, a new General Assembly will be convened during which elections will take place for the positions of president, vice-presidents and members of the Executive Committee.
George Cosac won his second mandate at the head of the FRT in the elections of November 17, 2017, being voted by 140 of the 160 members present. The Ministry of Youth and Sports did not recognize the elections, arguing that only the associated members should vote at the General Assembly. Consequently, MTS refused to grant funding to the Romanian Tennis Federation for 2018.
