The break-in was reported by the French station BFM TV, which noted that it was the first time such a theft had occurred at the famous Parisian tennis courts.
Roland Garros hacked
According to information from the French, the break-in took place on the night of September 26-27. The incident was reported by the French Tennis Federation. The perpetrators managed to jump over the high gate and enter the Stade Roland Garros. They searched the offices and stole valuable items from there.
Investigators found vandalized furniture in offices. According to initial findings, 11 thousand euros in cash were missing, smartwatches and jewelry with an estimated value of around 20 thousand euros were also stolen. In Polish currency, the thieves stole items with a total value of over 130 thousand PLN.
According to BFM TV, the Paris police are having trouble identifying the perpetrators. It is also not known whether it was a group of burglars or one person. The investigation is ongoing, which is why the police do not want to provide more details.
Stade Roland Garros was built in 1928. It consists of 18 courts, two of which are fully covered and can accommodate several thousand spectators each – Court Philippe Chatrier and Court Suzanne Lenglen.
The Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament is held on these courts every year, and Iga Świątek has won it four times. The Pole also enjoyed the title this season, defeating Jasmine Paolini in the final. This year, the facility also hosted the finals of the Olympic boxing tournaments. Julia Szeremeta could enjoy the silver medal in the up to 57 kg category.
