Simona Halep, 3rd place WTA, registered her 12th consecutive victory against Camila Giorgi, a personal record for the Romanian athlete, in the WTA circuit, after in 2013 she had achieved 11 successes in a row.
In January, Halep lost to the Russian Ekaterina Makarova in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, in the WTA circuit.
She was also defeated, at the beginning of February, in Galati, in the Federation Cup match with Spain, by Garbine Muguruza . Since then, the 23-year-old Romanian has played 12 matches, five in Dubai, five in Indian Wells and two in Miami, all won.
Simona Halep started the previous record series of consecutive victories in June 2013, at the Nurnberg tournament (5 games), continued it at ‘s-Hertogenbosch (another 5 games) and went through another round at Wimbledon, being interrupted by Na Li in the second leg of the London Grand Slam. In 2015, Halep played 24 matches (including the two in the FedCup) and lost only two.
Halep prevailed over Giorgi after a match that lasted one hour and 30 minutes, achieving the best performance of her career at the tournament in Florida.
