Romania qualified for the World Group 1 play-off . After sharing the points in the singles matches, the two countries contested a place in the play-off in the last confrontation, the doubles.
Irina Begu replaced Alexandra Dulgheru before the final match and played a great match, being the only one of the four players who did not lose her serve at all in the match. Begu prevailed, along with Monica Niculescu , in a match in which the “tricolors” lost the first set. The Romanians played much better in the next two and won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 , after 2 hours and 27 minutes.
Earlier, on Saturday, on the first day of the competition, Simona Halep defeated Silvia Soler Espinosa (6-2, 6-1), and Irina Begu lost in the duel with Garbine Muguruza (3-6, 2-6).Â
On Sunday, Begu got his revenge. Romania was led 1-2 after the defeat of Simona Halep with Muguruza (3-6, 4-6), but the pupil of Cruciat and Apostu Efremov played fantastically.Â

Begu did not stay for discussions with Soler Espinosa (6-2, 6-4) and then entered the court in the doubles match, together with Monica Niculescu. The victory of the two Romanians brought our team into the play-off for World Group 1, and the future opponent will be one of the national teams from Australia, Poland, Italy or Canada.
