Simona Halep took off on Saturday morning for the United States of America, where she will play two extremely important tournaments in the following weeks: in Indian Wells (March 11-22) and in Miami (March 24-April 5).
Exclusively for Digi Sport , the WTA No. 3 athlete spoke about her immediate goals. Last year, Halep played in the semifinals at Indian Wells, a goal she also set in 2015.
Simona, are you ready for the two tournaments?
Yes, I’m ready. I did the recovery, I also took a little break. I feel good and hope to be pain free, be well and play well in the upcoming tournament.
How important are the two upcoming tournaments for you? Last year you were in the semi-finals at Indian Wells, are you hoping for more this year?
Every tournament is important at this level. I don’t think if I want more. I hope to play match by match and see how far I can go. It’s a nice tournament and I hope to be in the best possible shape there.
Are there two preparatory tournaments or are you also interested in the results?
I am also interested in the results I will make there. It is very important and it is also very difficult because at this level there are very good players. It is not a preparatory tournament. It is important for this year.
You were named the best player in February…
It was a very good month with a very big title in Dubai. My health was not good enough, but now I feel good, recovered and confident for the next tournaments.
How is the collaboration with the new coach?
Collaboration is going well, I have a very good team. I trust that it will be good and I hope to make as many results as possible.
Do these results make you even more ambitious?
They are important awards in an athlete’s career. It is very important, it gives me confidence and I hope to receive as many as possible.
You didn’t play in Miami last year, do you hope to do it this year?
Of course I’m going to play. Last year something happened and I had to go back. I go to every tournament with confidence that I will be fine, to play everything I have to play.
Is it more difficult for you to play in the US?
It’s more difficult because it’s further from home, but it’s good for me and I feel good there.
