Simona Halep, WTA 3rd place and number 3 seed, defeated Camila Giorgi , WTA 37th place and 30th seed on Sunday, with a score of 6-4, 7-5, and qualified for the round of 16 of thePremier Mandatory Miami Open.
At the end of the match, Simona Halep gave an EXCLUSIVE interview to Digi Sport in which she admitted that she is currently unable to play her best tennis.
Simona spoke first, in the dialogue held with our colleague Gabriel Morariu, about the victory achieved against Camila Giorgi.
“The match was not easy at all. I don’t play tennis at my best level, but I have a lot of confidence in myself, in my mentality and that motivates me to win the matches.
Camila is a difficult player, who hits the ball quickly and very powerfully. I just wanted to adapt to her style and be aggressive. I tried to do everything to win, but my thought is to progress as much as possible in the game” , Halep told Digi Sport.
Our athlete says she feels good in Miami and has no problems due to the heat:
“I didn’t feel the heat very much, it was a normal day, much better than in the first match. It was a special atmosphere in the field.”
“Everywhere I feel at home!”
Asked what it means for her to reach the fourth round of the tournament in Miami for the first time, Halep replied:
“It means a lot, especially since I’m coming after the biggest tournament won in my career, I feel a little tired, but it’s normal because there have been a lot of matches lately and difficult on top of that.”
In the end, Simona also talked about her next opponent, even if at the time of the interview she did not know exactly who her opponent would be.
“I played with Pennetta many years ago. She’s a good, aggressive player, hits pretty straight, it’s going to be a tough match, but I’m confident I can do my job well on the court.
As for the public, I feel very special because I see how many people come to support me, cheer me on every match, call my name, create a special atmosphere. That makes me feel at home wherever I play” , concluded Simona Halep for Digi Sport.
