The three candidates for this distinction are the finalists from the Tournament of Champions in Singapore – Serena Williams and Simona Halep,as well as the winner of the year-end competition in Sofia, Andrea Petkovic ( DETAILS HERE ).
Serena is the main favorite, because she won the trophy in Singapore, in a last act dominated by the best player in Romania. Simona had defeated her in the groups, but the American got her revenge in the last act (6-3, 6-0 VIDEO HERE ).
The third candidate had a very good end of the year. Petkovic looked out of shape and her participation in Sofia was called into question. However, the German recovered in time. After a loss in her opening match to Iberian Suarez Navarro, Petkovic defeated Dominika Cibulkova and Tsvetana Pironkova in the group stage, then Garbine Muguruza in the semifinals, and Flavia Pennetta in the final act.
