This is certainly not the end of Iga Świątek’s achievements . However, none of them would be possible without talent, great physical and psychological preparation, and many years of hard work in training. What did Iga’s path to the top of the WTA world rankings look like?
Iga Świątek comes from Raszyn, a small village in the Mazovian province near Warsaw. She was born on May 31, 2001. Her family has always been connected to sports. Iga’s father was a professional rowing coach. He even competed at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988. He took 7th place in the quadruple sculls race. Her mother works as an orthodontist and is reluctant to be public.
It was their father who encouraged Iga and her older sister Agata to play sports from an early age. At first, the girls went to the swimming pool . Initially, innocent practice shots with a racket turned into an interest in this sport. Her parents sent Iga to training when she was 6 years old.
During the first years of her studies, the coaches gave a better rating to Iga’s sister, Agata . The girl was very ambitious and conscientious, while Iga did not always feel like training hard at first . Agata , on the other hand , developed health problems, primarily with her knees. Because of this, Iga’s sister was forced to end her career and eventually went to medical school.
How did Iga Świątek storm into the top ranks of world tennis? It turns out that the best Polish tennis player almost didn’t continue her tennis career at all. In an interview with “Mojerhoy” magazine, Iga told us what her youth looked like from her perspective :
